Our Mission
Our mission is to create a community of, and forum for, photography enthusiasts who wish to share experiences, show their work, and learn more about the art and science of photography and, to promote a public interest in, and appreciation for, the art of photography.
Who we are, What we do
We are a group of photography enthusiasts that gather monthly at the Petersburg Area Art League (PAAL).
We welcome people of all ages and skill level to join us to discuss and learn more about photography. We ask that anyone under the age of 18 be accompanied by an adult.
When and Where we meet
We meet on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:30pm at the Petersburg Area Art League (PAAL) located at 7 E Old St, Petersburg, VA 23803. Although, meetings during the holiday season are often moved up to the third Thursday of the month.
Your first visit
We want all people to feel welcome at our gatherings. Don’t worry, there will be no expectations of embarrassing introductions.
What you can expect at your first meeting:
- Doors open at 6:15pm, feel free to enter at the front doors at PAAL
- The meeting space is on the 2nd floor, accessible by stairs or an elevator
- A club leader calls the meeting to order around 6:30pm. They will invite any new visitors to share their name and info about themselves, related to photography, if they are comfortable
- Often, a club member will lead a discussion or demonstration on a photography topic
- We break and allow for one-on-one or small group discussion and fellowship
- During the break, everyone is asked to anonymously vote for their choice in the friendly photography competition
- We gather again to view and discuss the “Miscellaneous” photos that were submitted by each member. Each person briefly discusses their photos and other members may have questions or positive feedback
- We select the topic for next month’s photo competition, clean up our event space, and say our farewells around 8:30-9:00pm

Membership
Annual club membership for an individual is $25 and $35 for a family.
Membership dues are used for: paying for our meeting space, sponsoring events, engaging guest speakers, scheduling photo shoots and workshops where our members can participate.
